Charity Mergers: Experiences from the Charity Commission

Published: 2009

This survey was commissioned by the Charity Commission to investigate mergers between charities. Over 447 charities participated in the research survey which was aimed at all charities that had contacted the Commission about mergers between 2006 and 2008.

The report shows the number of charities that merged and the number of those that didn’t. For those that did merge it examines the reasons for merging, the time it took to merge, the number of charities involved in the merger and their evaluation of the merger process. For the charities that didn’t merge it explores various reasons why and barriers that they encountered.
