Midlands & East England

Jan BottleJan Bottle

As the Midlands regional manager my job falls into two main parts: working with our existing members and recruiting new members.

I work with our members by offering support, capacity building, networking and access to our national programmes.

If you would like to talk to me about what bassac can do for you please email me on jan@bassac.org.uk or call me on 01905 778 349 or 07827 822 409.

The region I look after

The Midlands is an extremely diverse area. The inner cities of Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham have high levels of poverty and sometimes community conflict. The ward of Ladywood, in Birmingham was recently found to have the highest rates of child poverty in the country. In contrast, there is rural deprivation and isolation across the region, for example in Herefordshire and Derbyshire. Small towns in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire suffer from economic deprivation resulting from the ending of the mining and coalfield industries.

Although bassac does not have a dedicated staff member in the Eastern region, our Community Matters colleagues support our members there. For more information about this area contact Isabelle Terrisson.

Working together

I am developing links with regional authorities and forums in order to advocate on behalf of the community sector. Much of this work is done with my Community Alliance colleagues. Between our three organisations we ensure that the Alliance and our members are represented strongly across the regions.

I am excited about extending our reach and sharing good practice between even more organisations.

About me

I live in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire with my husband and three cats. My passions are wildlife, travelling, reading, yoga and Manchester United. During 2008, I completed a counselling course and cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats.
