bassac part of consortium to deliver £70m Communitybuilders programme

30th June 2009

bassac, with Community Alliance partners Community Matters and the Development Trusts Association, is a member of the consortium appointed to deliver the £70million Communitybuilders programme, it was announced today.

The consortium is led by the Adventure Capital Fund in association with Futurebuilders England and the Community Alliance.

"I am thrilled that bassac is part of such a bold venture", said Ben Hughes, chief executive of bassac. "It takes bassac right back to the roots of the settlement movement, where these organisations trail blazed the idea of using locally- owned buildings as a resources to regenerate deprived communities.

"In many ways that’s just what this fund seeks to build on and, working closely with our partners DTA and Community Matters, I am excited about using our collective experience to maximize the impact of this programme, through working with a diverse range and type of anchor organisations."

The fund will be open for applications from community anchor organisations later in the summer. More information will be available shortly about how to apply and the criteria for eligibility.

Communitybuilders, run jointly by CLG and the Office of the Third Sector aims to build more cohesive, engaged and active communities through investment in multi-purpose, community-led organisations. Investment will consist of a mix of loans and grants and non-financial support, including expert advice and mentoring services, at different stages of project development.

More information about the fund can be found on the Communitybuilders website.
