If you are keen to learn and understand more about impact then we recommend you start with Made to Measure. It is designed for community organisations to do in house, with a staff and/or trustee group.
Made to Measure takes you through the different elements of impact and asks you key questions, prompting you to think more rigorously and leading you to assess the impact you have.
It has been developed to support multi-purpose community organisations to address the complexities of assessing their impact and communicating this to a variety of audiences.
It can be used by individuals, typically the chief executive and management team members, to think through the different aspects of impact in the context of their organisation, and the kinds of questions that need to be asked.
It can also be used as a discussion tool by small teams, so that different people in the organisation end up with similar ideas about what the organisation is aiming to do, what is being done to achieve these aims and what happens as a result.
When you have completed the workbook - it takes no longer than five weeks to do this - you take part in a half-day review workshop where you share learning and ideas with similar organisations that have also completed the workbook.
Completing the workbook may be sufficient to set you on the path of thinking about impact, as long as there is enough capacity within the organisation to develop ideas.
However, if you feel you could benefit from further support to analyse your impact more deeply, you should consider applying for ChangeCheck.
ChangeCheck requires commitment from all levels of the organisation and enough staff to get the job done. The ChangeCheck taster workshop will help you understand what ChangeCheck entails and what it can do for you.
If it sounds like Made to Measure is right for your organisation and you would like to know more about how to get started, or you think ChangeCheck may meet your needs, please get in touch with us by email: impact@bassac.org.uk
