policy & consultation

bassac has been helping to shape government legislation on community issues for more than 80 years.

Successes include raising the school leaving age (from 14 to 15) and securing extra fuel payments for people on benefits.

bassac has also initiated several campaigns that have become national organisations in their own right, such as the Association for the Childless (now National Association for the Childless) and the Kids' Club Network (now 4Children).

Today, bassac is working to effect positive community changes across seven key areas:

  • community health
  • youth issues
  • sustainable development
  • community resources
  • local governance
  • community sector development
  • government spending policies.
