Our policy work

Working with our members for social change

For over 120 years bassac members have been influential in using evidence from their work with local communities to lobby for social justice. In 2010 we continue to work with key government departments to promote our policy position.

Current areas of work include:

  • Working with Community Alliance partners to promote the role community anchors play in shaping local policy to national policymakers
  • Developing a series of seminars with national local government networks to promote the relationship between local councillors and community anchors as part of a wider series of work called Inspiring Democracy
  • Working with Urban Forum to research and produce a guide for community organisations who want to play a part in improving things for people in their area
  • Planning a series of policy roundtables for 2010-2011 to promote the work of our programmes to national policymakers and members.

We produce a quarterly publication, Voice | Community | Policy, that demonstrates where national policy links to multi-purpose community organisations.

We work closely with our members to help them influence policy. We produce policy briefings and analysis, disseminate practical guides and respond to a variety of consultations. We represent our members at national and regional meetings, conferences and forums.
